You are Good Enough
Some weeks are rough. We get busy with work, we get sick and energy levels are low, or maybe we get some bad news. This may mean our bedroom has piles of clean clothes laying all over the floor to be folded, sorted and put away, and three more loads waiting to be done. The dishwasher stays open, airing out the clean dishes so there’s no need to hand dry whatever remnants of water droplets remain. Until the dishwasher is emptied, dirty dishes will remain piled up in the sink. On days like this, even the idea of making our beds seems too much like being an overachiever.
Despite the fact that on days such as this, we clearly get behind on life, one constant remains the same. Kids still need to be fed. They are young and dependent on the adults in their lives for meals and snacks. Unfortunately, meal plans go out the window and perhaps families eat a little more macaroni, fast food and pizza than desired, and aren’t served quite as many vegetables as intended. Regardless of the circumstances, the kids end up being fed and that is enough.
Eventually, things settle, (hopefully). Kids somehow arrive at daycare, school or camp, dressed in clothes that are found while rummaging through the piles of clean laundry. Beds aren’t made but they’ll be ready for whomever jumps in them that evening. There’s still no meal plan for this week and no plan for dinner tonight for that matter, except perhaps for the always ready pb and j sandwhiches. Whatever food is placed on the table though, the kids will be fed.
